Aperiodical News Roundup – March 2025

Here’s a round-up of some mathematical and maths-related news that happened in March 2025 that we didn’t otherwise cover on the site.

The three-dimensional Kakeya set conjecture has been proved. The result is described by Terry Tao as “spectacular progress in geometric measure theory”. Here’s the paper itself if you want a read!

Yu Deng, Zaher Hani and Xiao Ma have claimed to have resolved Hilbert’s Sixth Problem in an ArXiV paper. The problem concerns axiomatisation of the branches of physics that include maths, and was one of Hilbert’s list of open problems originally set in 1900.

The OEIS is under new management! Sean Irvine has taken over as the new Managing Editor, in an announcement posted on the SeqFans mailing list.

And finally, Bletchley Park codebreaker Betty Webb has died aged 101. Mrs Webb worked at Bletchley from the age of 18.
